With well-carved, curved crest … more The dramatic simplicity of this joinery-crafted pair of chairs reflects the grace of Ming* Chinese design.
With well-carved, curved crest rail over a single, broad S-shaped splat. The curved arm rails are supported on tapered, curved vertical slats and extend beyond the curved front posts. The molded rectangular frames enclose an inset seat. Size: Each 49'' x 26'' x 22'' (124 x 66 x 56 cm).
Handcrafted of aged rosewood and hand lacquered to enhance its mellow beauty, this pair of horse shoe chairs are a contemporary rendition of the traditional Ming style Chairs.
The legs end in a claw and ball design that is symbol of power and protection.
The back of each chair has three significant symbols neatly carved
- Cloud
- The dragon - a symbol of protection and good fortune. Residing in the clouds, the dragon is seen as a harbinger of rain and a good harvest
- The endless knot, originally a Buddhist emblem from India and Hinduism, has nine crossings (nine being a strong yang number) and its endless cycle suggests immortality and the infinite wisdom of Buddha
