Description: Artichokes are one of the oldest foods known to man. During the 16th century they were thought to be an … more Artichokes are one of the oldest foods known to man. During the 16th century they were thought to be an aphrodisiac - and women were forbidden to eat them.

Special plates have been made for them for hundreds of years as they were so unique they were pretty much their own course. These faience plates are from the storied French manufacturer Gien and, by their backstamp, date to the 1960's.

Use these plates for their intended purpose of eating artichokes - man or woman - or arrange on a wall for a certain conversation piece.
