This artwork was derived from my personal collection of objects. I love glass and the idea of transparency and pattern. This is a theme I like to explore in a lot of my still life paintings. In this painting rich, saturated colors are used and combined with a love for shape and form as elements of design. The silhouettes are simple with a distinct character that adds to the personality of the painting. Layers of transparent and opaque color add to the paintings texture. The color red felt important to this artwork, its a hue with so many meanings. Here I welcomed the notion of its transparency in the red glass vase and the way it held the pink and white flowering branches. (I'm a romantic at heart.) The balance of the arrangement was constructed with symbolic memento's of time that I have collected. The clear champagne glass was from my parents wedding and the fruit always bring a touch of the present moment.
