The swan on this Victorian-era stickpin is adorned with five hand-cut high table paste stones in its wings and a ruby cabochon for its eye. The sterling silver is well-oxidised making for a beautiful patina that offsets the paste stones and creates a nice contrast. The swan neck arches gracefully and the twist in the pin, which was added by heating up and hand-twisting the silver, keeps the pin held securely in place when pinned to fabric.
The swan symbol is often used in Celtic folklore to represent transformation. Circa 1890’s, this pin would look adorable worn in a blazer.
The pin weighs 2.48 grammes and is approximately 2 and 3/4 inches long. less
