Intimate large charcoal full-length portrait of a seated woman with short bobbed hair in afternoon attire, dating to the Flapper era Roaring Twenties. On fine art laid paper watermarked, "Ingres d'Arches, MBM France." Signed "Plitt" upper right for Hilda Plitt (1896-1968), and dated April 10 '18 for 1918. Work is from her student sketchbook portfolio from the Maryland Institute at Baltimore, now Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), the oldest degree-granting art college in the U.S. Last photo gives artist's data for provenance purposes, as appears on another work in the portfolio.
Sketch is professionally framed in a contemporary dark gunmetal gray metal frame under a new acid-free slate gray linen fabric mat. Signature is covered by matting. Some fine scratches to finish on frame due to age and use, and small tack marks on work.
