Guthrie Courvoisier and his wife, Moira Wallace, established the Couroc Company in Monterrey, California in the late 1940s. The company worked with a stable of artists to produce inlaid decorative accessories/household objects using a proprietary and patented phenolic resin material until they closed operations in 1998, their 50th anniversary. Items like these were original designs hand inlaid with stones, shells, coral, coins, woods, metal, and sometimes found objects. The phenolic resin base was extremely durable and resistant to fading, alcohol, liquid, and heat, and were used by the US Army as well as numerous airlines.
