Decorate an office or a desk with this beautifully preserved antique terrestrial globe. Crafted in France, circa 1870, the terrestrial piece sits on a Napoleon III walnut pedestal base. The brass stem holds the 12" swivel globe which is signed Ch. Perogot Paris, "Professeur d'Histoire et de Geographie au Lycee Saint Louis", and drawing by Mouraux. The paper globe with physics, politics and history, rotates on a calibrated brass basket frame with brass meridian circle, horizon ring and hour ring, supported by four brass quadrants. The colorful globe is in very good condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich patinated finish. One meter circumference, scale 1/40000000. Repair done to a small part (see detailed image).
Charles Auguste Perigot (1828-1885) was a French geographer and historian. He attended the Ecole Normale Superieur in Paris in 1850 and at the Aggregation of Letters in 1857. He is the author of precise geographies and Classic atlases which rendered great services to the studies of his time. He is best known for his General Atlas of Ancient Physical and Political Geography, of the Middle Ages and Modern, Paris, F. Tandou, 1865.
