This Andy Warhol Estate rare vintage 1911 custom framed collector's offset lithograph print " Sam " 1954, is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The offset lithograph print is published by Te Neues Publishing Company New York, printed in Germany in 1991 with the licensed authorized rights of The Estate & Foundation of Andy Warhol. It features an artwork image originally created by Warhol in 1954 titled " Sheet from Cats Name Sam and One Blue Pussy ( New York, 1954 ) ".
This is a rare opportunity for true Warhol fans and collectors as this coveted image offset lithograph print is long out of print and very scarce to find. The official " AW " Foundation seal of authenticity is printed on the print in the lower right front corner.
In the 1950's long before he had invented himself as Pop Art's pioneer, Andy Warhol was making ends meet as a children's book illustrator, still unable to escape poverty. When his mother, Julia Warhola an artist herself found out about her son's destitute conditions she boarded a bus in Pittsburgh to move into Andy's tiny New York apartment intent on taking care of him.
The two shared a love of cats so strong that their home was filled by a multitude of felines, all but one named Sam ; the sole outlier, Julia's most beloved companion, was named Hester. In addition to cat rearing, the mother-son cohabitation eventually led to a series of creative collaborations and an adventure of self publishing.
In 1954, Andy and Julia released a limited edition artist's book ungrammatically titled " 25 Cats Name Sam and One Blue Pussy ", featuring Andy's signature blotted line hand watercolor drawings in vibrant Pop Art colors and calligraphy by Julia. Oddly enough, there were only 16 rather than 25 cats portrayed and Julia accidentally missed the letter " D " from " Named ", but Andy decided to keep the title as it was. The book was conceived as an edition of 190 signed and numbered copies, privately printed, most of which Warhol gave away to friends and clients.
The rare out of print framed collector's offset lithograph print measures 13 1/2" W X 17 1/8" H X 7/8" D. It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern canary lemon yellow matte eggshell finish wood frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent " like new " condition. The print is in excellent " like new " very clean condition with very light signs of handling. It is brand newly custom framed and has never been displayed.
