Antique bible storage box with keyed lock. Decorative burl walnut veneer and inlays upon front, oak veneer on tops and sides over coniferous secondary woods.
Wrought iron handles and hardware, one side handle is ornate and other plain so one is likely a replacement. Fancy lock escutcheon. Rests upon bun feet.
Modeled after 18th century bible boxes this one is likely somewhat later, probably dating to the mid to late 19th century, especially the Gothic Revival period. This one is likely English. less
