A heavy very high quality English Silver Plate Candle Snuffer, from an estate in the Lake District.
This candle snuffer, candle extinguisher, or douter is used to extinguish burning candles, consisting of a small cone at the end of a long elegant handle in this case. The use of a snuffer helps to avoid problems associated with blowing hot wax and it avoids the smoke and odour of a smouldering wick which results from simply blowing a candle out.
