The iconic Flowers artworks were first exhibited at the renowned Leo Castelli Gallery in New York City in 1964. Warhol experimented with color, layering and shadows, using different color schemes and painting the flowers in a multitude of vibrant palettes. At the time, flowers were a refreshing departure from Warhol's previous artworks addressing mass culture and brands such as the Campbell's Soup Can, as flowers themselves are iconic and timeless, untethered to any particular Pop culture reference or idea.
