Handira blanket, also called Moroccan wedding blanket, is used to add an elegant accent as a throw on your bed or sofa. This is a rectangular cloth designates in Morocco as a blanket woven with wool and cotton originally used as a coat worn on the shoulders and which constitutes a capital piece of the traditional Berber clothing. The loose loops of wool on the inside of a heavy Handira would be worn on the outside during snowy weather. The snow would fall off the loops easily, so that the cloth doesn't become wet. Some blankets use hundreds of sequins that have been attached individually by hand. In the Amazigh culture, the Handira is traditionally handwoven as a wedding dress in anticipation of a wedding celebration thought to bring blessings and good luck to the newlyweds.
Also called ''Tahandirte'' in the feminine and ''ahandir'' masculine, this traditional blanket is still used nowadays in Berber villages. The sets, the length and the way of wearing the Handira depend on one tribe to another and thus allows the identification of the tribe. We can link the origins of each Handira style to a specific tribe.
Use a stunning Handira blanket in your decoration to create a glamourous and chic touch. These Moroccan wedding blanket can also be hung on your wall. It will give a stylish touch to a wall and will fill your home that can look empty. less
