Beautiful antique Shaker-style armchair rocker with wood splint seat in a warm reddish brown stain. Gorgeous profile and distinctive tiger maple markings! The rocker features four slightly concave arched back slats and slightly tapered tiger maple back posts topped by two elongated flame style finials. The front posts are turned above the seat and rise to meet round hand rests. The rocker has two elliptically shaped support rungs on the front and sides and one on the back. The graceful, short rocker blades taper from front to back with a small rise where the blades meet the front post. As is typical of Shaker style, the front of the rocker is wider than the back. Great patina and character!
Condition consistent with age and use--please see photos for details and condition. Definitely old and matches Shaker design and construction; some repairs may have been made over the years--hard to tell. One of the round hand rests is missing a piece. Upon close inspection, there here are some nicks and scratches here and there, a gouge on one of the back posts as well as scratches on the back of the top back slat. It appears someone may have attempted to add or remove something to the finials at some point. Splint seat is in great condition--has likely been replaced and has one separated splint and one partial separation which could be fixed. Does not affect structural integrity of seat or overall look and use. Overall great patina and character.
Measures approximately 22" w at front x 25 1/2" d x 42 1/2" h, Seat height is 17" h (front) and splint seat measures 20" w at front, 16" w at back x 15 1/4" d. Arm height is 24 3/4" in the front.
