This is a project! It needs restoration. The antique purist would install the lamp with a shade in a nice area where it looks smashing. It is a great piece. The conserver might set about repairing the paint and other cosmetic areas. it needs attention to the finish -- the paint is rough in areas on the back and the base, and on the girl's left forearm. There is an area on the base near the back that has a 1.5 inch gap or separation in the wood. But the scene is so intricate with the water, the jug, and the cup! The repairs are truly cosmetic. The lamp works perfectly.

This lamp is made of composition and was produced between 1910 and 1930. It is most likely the work of French sculptor Mathurin Moreau who was from a large family of artists who created bronze figural sculptures. Decorative items like this lamp and clocks were copied in composition and produced for consumers .
I researched the history and I love, love the sculptural quality of the lamp and the fact that it was likely inspired by some bronze art work.
This lamp's design is consistent with the pastoral themes the Moreau family used. The lamp is gilt painted cast composite in the figure of a young woman wearing a sundress as she sits on a stacked rock with a basket filled with food at her feet. In her hands she holds a cup which she is filling from a small jug raised on the base, which shows faint signs of an inscription. There is a lighting standard in the back. less
