Beautiful antique Japanese monochrome byobu (screen) by a nanga artist Ueda Tangai (1863-1936) , depicting a peaceful landscape with ducks near a pond. Signed. 6 panels. Gouache, watercolor and ink on silver leaf over paper. Lacquered brown wood frame. Paper on back. Japan, Taishō or Shōwa Era, circa 1890-1920s. Good condition - some age wear, repair on 2nd panel, minor restoration work on few hinges, age patina on silver leaf.

Ueda Tangai, Kogi (甕) Ziho (子抱), was born in Kumamoto, lived in Kyoto, was a student of Kajiyama Kyue.
