Andy Warhol ( 1928 - 1987 ) is one of the singularly most well known Contemporary artists of all time. His imagery is recognized worldwide. His infamous life, artworks, and creative endeavors are like no other artist. He is considered to be the very first artist to use common everyday objects and view them in a completely different way while paying homage to their role in our society. Glorifying the common as the beautiful. His technique utilizing a silkscreen method combined with hand finishing in a signature palette of vibrant color hues make the work stand on its own and loved by millions.
The publication of this volume highlights how Andy Warhol explored the cult of merchandise and consumerism, sensitively tracking how the mechanical had morphed from the industrial inventions of The 19th century into something new.
Always attentive to technical and industrial breakthroughs, Warhol used all types of techniques and machinery, from silkscreen printing to video recording, with production patterns that he himself defined as " pertaining to an assembly line ". Deliberately seeking an impersonal, mechanical art in a creative subversion of traditional expectations for art and its makers, Warhol traded in transfers, copies, projections and repetitions.
This exhibition book brings together a selection of more than 250 works by Warhol, focusing in the technical and conceptual evolution of art in New York in the second half of The 20th Century. It also includes portraits of the artist by photographers Alberto Schommer, Richard Avedon and Robert Mapplethorpe. Essays by Robert Rosenblum, Peter Schjedahl, Rosalind Krauss and an interview conducted by Benjamin Buchloh delve into Warhol's creative and production process.
The rare out of print 1st edition Pop Art exhibition art book measures 9 1/2" W X 12 1/2" H X 3/4" D, with 272 pages. It is printed on premium paper stock featuring 189 illustrations, and a list of works.
