The brass lock mechanism on the drawer is stuck but wiggles, so I believe it can be fixed should someone want to lock it. Otherwise, this does not affect the opening/closing of the drawer. This is a dainty kidney shaped writing table or ladies desk featuring a unique lift top that can be raised and set at various angles to display sheet music, pictures, books, etc. There is a single pull-out drawer on the front, graceful serpentine stretchers, quality brass casters and decorative brass mounts on the front and back. I believe the wood is mahogany.
I am the original owner and purchased this new in the early 1990's at either Maitland-Smith in High Point, NC or Councill Furniture in Denton, NC. There is no makers label, so I cannot verify the maker with certainty. That said, I can verify that this is a quality piece of furniture made by or for a high-end furniture company. less
