About:
Francoise Montague is a French costume jewelry brand. The business was founded in the 1940s and still markets couture jewelry made in France.
Francoise Montague took over the De Saurma jewelry workshop in the late 1940s. Her mother founded the boutique in 1945, as mentioned in the "Costume Jewelry for Haute Couture" book by Florence Muller. The established business included a global clientele and a boutique in Paris. After Montague took over, her most important client was Nina Ricci for more than ten years.
Early jewelry by Montague is recognizable in the abundant use of enamel and iridescent glass beads. However, these pieces and the early resin pieces are unmarked and are often difficult to identify correctly. Montague continued to work the business through the 1950s and 1960s, earning accolades, including the Grand Prix des Creations de Bijouterie Fantaisie in 1961, and maintaining a loyal clientele.
The house that worked for the haute couture was acquired in 1978 by Marion Stern, who kept the name of Françoise Montague.
The company pared down its staff considerably during the 1990s. It rebounded in the 2000s by adding many new designs to its couture jewelry portfolio and building on old standards by creating pieces made using multiple foxtail chains in a fringe fashion.
Since 1998, located in Rue Saint-Honoré in Paris, the first Françoise Montague store is a delight for ladies. At the end of a courtyard, like a best-kept secret place, women looking for elegant, unique, and exclusive jewelry find brooches, necklaces, earrings in metal, resin, paste, hard stones, and paste glass beads, sometimes mixed with old pieces.
The House Françoise MONTAGUE is appreciated for its classicism and very "couture" style.
