I’ve watched many videos about real and fake. Cinnabar and I find it difficult to tell the difference.
I’ve been following the auction that sold us for a couple of years and it’s my favorite Auction, because of its accurate description and estimated values. I’ve seen 100 red Cinnabar items and they either call it Cinnabar, Red Lacquer, or red colored vase. This auction house says this is real Cinnabar. I even contacted them to confirm this before the auction. However, I think it might be layers of Cinnabar coated on top of carved wood or some other carved base because where the Cinnabar has chipped off you can see that it isn’t solid Cinnabar all he way through. I can provide the email verifying this is real cinnabar upon request.
Height: 9.25 inches
Width: 4 inches
Age: unknown
Origin: China
Estimated value by the auction house: $400
My guarantee is that I will be honest about my items, and share what I know about them with you. Also, I will be fair with my pricing based on research, and I will also share this with you.
There are three steps involved in my research for pricing, and you can do this too.
1. Use an app called Google Lens to take a photo of any item. It will bring up similar items and how much they sell/sold for. This is also helpful in figuring out what to call or how to describe the item.
2. Do a Google search for the name of the item.
3. Do a search for the item by name on Chairish and another similar site.
Since I am being fair with my pricing, I want you to know how to do this. It will only help me by validating my pricing choices, and hopefully it will help you to recognize items that are overpriced.
Feel free to ask me any questions or to make an offer.
I have many more items to post, so please check back sometime.
Thank you!
