A Mid-Century Modern flush mounted ceiling square.
Patterns of geometric and stylized floral motif decorate this lovely architecturally square chandelier in a gridwork of square glass panels structurally and decoratively supported by original nickeled steel clips.
Sparkling like crystal, this fixture exudes a sense of elegance and style.
The overall clean and simple angular cubist shape lends an architectural and modern aesthetic.
The 1960s with its Post Modern and pop art movements of geometric forms and bold colors took inspiration from Art Deco. The Art Deco revival extended through the 1970s and 1980s until today. Several fairly newly constructed NYC skyscrapers eg: (The Centrale on East 50th Street, Rose Hill 30 East 29th Street, 25 Park Row in the Financial district, Vandewater in Morningside Heights... are being fashioned after Art Deco design and others are being populated with Art Deco flourishes. It's referred to as the return of the golden age design, a period of optimism and hope.
These flush mounts can be used in a bedroom, bathroom, entry, foyer, hallway, closet, child's room, walkway, or anywhere a little glamorous sparkle is desired.
We have multiples of these fixtures available and also have matching deeper box shaped pendant versions as well.
Kaiser, Leuchten, Kalmar, Paavo Tynell, Kinkeldey
Due to periods of historic turmoil, many of the glass designers worked for multiple lighting manufacturers. Entire sections of countries were annexed by adjoining countries. Borders changed. Czechoslovakia was under German occupation and rule. After the war, from 1948-1990, it became part of the Eastern Bloc. As a socialist and satellite state of the Soviet Union, it had an economy of command where rules, production … were determined and set by the government.
In 1958, Czechoslovakia exhibited in the Brussels World Fair and gained world -wide attention for using modern materials of steel, glass and plastic. The country won the main and several other prizes for its lights. This new style of lighting became known as the Brussels style, a symbol of the golden decade of progress, reform and political liberation. But in 1968, the Warsaw Pact consisting of the Soviet Union, Bulgaria, Poland, Hungary invaded with the intention to forcibly halt the reforms. East Germany cancelled and pulled out of the pact hours before the operation.
