Some detail in center piece appeared to be missing and were left out to preserve authenticity, but mostly because we found the slightly asymmetric design to be far more interesting and unique. less

The piece is meticulously restored. It was completely disassembled into individual pieces and reassembled using real period-authentic hoof wood adhesive. New padding, ticking, and real jute webbing. Original steel springs are in good condition.
The previous owner of this piece was unable to provide exact age of this piece only stating it has been in the family longer than she could quote. Passed on ownership to us on condition of restoration/preservation.
During restoration, natural seaweed padding was removed from inside, dating it to no later than 1940's. However, the style, the obvious very advanced age of the last upholstery, the apparent age of the wood and constructions style (no nails, screws, or brackets; all dovetail and wood dowel joints; springs and jute, original form of upholstery attachment, etc.) all point to a potentially much, much older age.
It was also clear the unit has been reupholstered and internally restored at least twice, possibly three times, before (yet the last upholstery was VERY old) which further supports this.
Nevertheless the indicated age is an estimation and not expert dating.
