These very comfortable antique ladder back chairs were crafted in Normandy, France circa 1920. Built in walnut and beechwood and attributed to Charles Dudouyt, each chair sits on round turned legs and features two ladders in the back embellished with bun shape finials at the top. The wide and deep seat is dressed with the original hand woven rush. The country seating is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorn a rich walnut patina. The versatile and sturdy low "chauffeuses" chairs are meant to be placed close to the fire place to stay warm, but could also be used for children seating.
