This " The Art of Mark Rothko : Into an Unknown World " rare vintage 1991 first edition collector's Abstract Expressionist offset lithograph print slipcase hardcover art book is an incredibly special and unique book to add to your library collection.
The hardcover book with brick red linen covered boards, embossed spine titles and dust jacket is enclosed in an orange hard cardboard slipcase sleeve. It is published by Clarkson N. Potter, printed in Japan in 1991. It features a monograph survey of the artworks of the artist Mark Rothko, with essays by art world luminaries Robert Rosenblum, Mark Stevens, Brian O'Doherty, Arnold Glimcher, and Irving Sandler, edited by Pace Gallery New York director Marc Glimcher.
Mark Rothko ( 1903 - 1970 ) is an American Modernist painter of Russian Jewish descent. Although Rothko himself refused to adhere to any art movement, he is generally defined as an Abstract Expressionist. His bold use of color fields make the artworks impressively iconic and highly individual. Rothko is considered to be one of the most important and influential American painters of The 20th Century Art works by Rothko are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
Mark Rothko sought to communicate human emotion and the human drama through his work. An early proponent of Surrealism, Rothko's spiritual energy became more refined in his later work, moving toward the elimination of all obstacles between the painter and the idea, between the idea and the observer.
More than 70 images spanning the course of Rothko'd career are presented here in this beautiful volume, many with close-ups that reproduce details of the works at near-life size, allowing the viewer to enter the intimate world of Mark Rothko. Incisive compelling essays offer further insights into the challenging and mysterious world of this American creative genius.

The rare out of print 1st edition Abstract Expressionist slipcase hardcover art book measures 11 1/4" W X 12 1/4" H X 3/4" D, with 168 pages. It features 92 offset lithograph print illustrations, including a multi-page center fold-out, and selected chronology.
