The softcover art book with firm paper board covers and glassine dust jacket wrapper is published by Fernand Hazan Paris. This fourth volume in The Bibliotheque Aldine Des Arts Series is published under the direction of Ben Sussan, printed in France in December 1948 by Viale et L'Hotellier, typography by L'Imprimerie Belland. It features a monograph survey collection of the artworks of Henri Matisse, with accompanied French language essay authored by Andre Lejard.

Henri Matisse ( 1869 - 1954 ) the French born artist is known for both hi sense of color and fluid aesthetic. Matisse is commonly regarded, along with Picasso as one of the most important artists who helped to define and influence radical Contemporary Art of The Twentieth Century. His mastery of the expressive language of color and drawing won him recognition as a leading figure in world Modern Art. Artworks by Matisse are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
