This " Ellsworth Kelly : The Years in France 1948-1954 " rare vintage 1992 first edition lithograph print collector's Modernist hardcover art exhibition book is an incredibly special and unique book to add to your library collection.
The hardcover book with black linen covered boards, embossed cover and spine titles, and dust jacket is published by Prestel-Verlag Munich, printed in Germany in 1992 by Karl Wenschow Franzis-Druck GMBH, Munich on the occasion of the exhibition. It features a monograph survey of the artworks of the artist Ellsworth Kelly, with accompanied compelling text authored by Yve-Alain Bois, Jack Cowart, and Alfred Pacquement.
Ellsworth Kelly ( 1923 - 2015 ) is an American born Minimalist Color Field Modernist painter. His work emphasizes line, color, and form. The experimental bold artworks are considered to be some of the most important Modern paintings of The Twentieth Century. Art works by Kelly are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
Early in his career, Kelly spent six years in France from 1948 to 1954, a time that proved decisive to the evolution of his art. This special volume published in connection with an exhibition organized by The Galerie National Du jeu De Paume, Paris and The National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C. It presents the first complete portrait of this pivotal stage in Kelly's career drawing in previously unpublished works and observations by the artist.
This book reproduces for the first time all Kelly's paintings and low-relief sculpture from this period, as well as a selection of his earlier paintings done in New Jersey and Boston. Comparative illustrations include portraits of his artist friends, photographs of Paris, and works by Matisse, Picasso and others. The achievements of this period are recognized today as Kelly's first important works and have clearly established his international reputation.
The rare out of print 1st edition collector's Modernist art book measures 10 3/4" W X 12 1/4" H X 7/8" D, with 208 pages. It features 222 offset lithograph print illustrations, including 106 in full-color, an artist chronology, appendix of paintings, select bibliography and exhibition history.
It is in excellent " like new " very clean condition consistent with age and very light signs of handling. Please see photos for condition reference. It is now being offered here for an excellent price.
