It dates to c1880s. It features a butterfly hovering near morning glory flowers. It is signed in lower left by Hector Giacomelli (1822-1904), a well known French watercolorist, engraver and illustrator best known for his work with plants, birds, and insects. This engraving is done in soft gray tones with high and low highlights. It has a soft beautiful quality and shows intricate finely detailed imagery. We purchased a small grouping of these phototypes in Paris; please see others listed in our shop. They make a wonderful grouping deserving a well lit spot in your home décor. Excellent pristine condition with clean edges. No evidence of foxing or age discoloration. Image size is 8.5 x 12 inches; entire plate with documentation measures 12 x 15.75 inches. See less
