A one-of-a-kind, this 1844 desk blotter would have contained paper in the folio and used as an ink blotter or to make notes with the a quill pen. The cover, as seen in this series of images, was created in papier-mache, hand-painted and utilized an inlay of mother of pearl for Washington's home. The title appears in the lower right corner. There are also mother of pearl rests on the front and back corner.
Iridescent qualities and back appears to be lacquered. English registry mark for November 1844. less
