This " The Sculpture of Picasso " rare vintage 1967 first edition Mid Century Modern photogravure print iconic Museum of Modern Art exhibition collector's hardcover Modern Art book is an incredibly special and unique book to add to your library collection.
The hardcover art book with cover board and spine embossed titles, and dust jacket is published by The Museum of Modern Art New York, printed on Mohawk Superfine Paper by photogravure in 1967 in a limited edition by Lebanon Valley Offset Company, book designed by Joseph Courke Del Valle.
Pablo Picasso ( 1881 - 1973 ) was a Spanish born painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, poet and playwright who spent most of his life in France. He is regarded as one of the most important and influential artists of The Twentieth Century. Exceptionally prolific throughout the course of his long life, Picasso achieved universal renown and immense fortune for his revolutionary artistic accomplishments, and became one of the most well known figures in 20th Century Art.
The text and illustrations of this landmark volume offer the most comprehensive account ever published of Picasso's sculpture. His greatness as sculptor has been long recognized, but the true significance of this art within his total creative achievement could not be revealed until after his 85th birthday, when for the first time he was allowed a full scale exhibition of his sculpture at The Museum of Modern Art, New York.
This book was published in conjunction with that iconic exhibition in 1967. It's 260 photogravure print illustrations reproduce virtually all of Picasso's existing sculptural oeuvre, and the compelling text is by Picasso's friend of many years and biographer, Roland Penrose, who selected the works for the exhibition.
The rare out of print 1st edition iconic collector's hardcover Modern Art exhibition book measures 9 3/4" W X 12" H X 3/4" D, with 213 pages. It features 260 illustrations, a catalog list of the artist's exhibitions, and chronology by Alicia Legg.
It is in excellent clean vintage condition consistent with age, light signs of handling, and light minor wear to the dust jacket. Please see photos for condition reference. It is now being offered here for an excellent price. less
