A circa 1840 French Louis XVI style gilt carved wood wall mirror crafted in 19th century France. The original beveled mercury mirror is in great condition and is surrounded by the handsome carved bead border of its cream-painted and water-gilt frame that is heavily carved with Neoclassical designs. Stylistically, the mirror exhibits the refined designs and themes of the Louis XVI period which preferred Greco-Roman imagery over Rococo forms. The mirror with its bell-flowers, trophic crest, tied ribbon, arrows of justice, and flaming torch of truth exhibit perfectly the adornments of the style. The quality gilt has gained a beautiful patina over the decades. Make sure to check out the detailed photos for a closer look at this marvelous mirror.
