The 5mm thick circular glass top is also in excellent condition with age-appropriate wear. The rotating mechanism is flawless. Please take note that we added a felted bottom to the base so that it will not slide. This beauty’s look-and-feel is the epitome of the true Sorrentine intarsio art, handcrafted by master artisan Mastellone Giuseppe. The craft of inlaid wood artwork began in Sorrento more than 150 years ago. The divergent colors you see in the photos are different types of wood, not paint. Mastellone Giuseppe is considered one of the best intarsio artisans in Sorrento. The assorted wood he often uses includes birds eye maple, walnut, olive wood, ebony, Brazilian rosewood, elm wood and padouck. In the case of this gorgeous lazy susan, he appears to have incorporated birds eye maple, burl olive wood and walnut wood using an arabesque and the traditional Sorrentine scroll design. Did you know that genuine intarsio consists of natural wood coloring and grain structure from assorted wood that the craftsman has access to. The myriad of wood includes color variations from almost pure white as in the wood of the lemon tree to the black of ebony, including all the colors of the rainbow in between. Only the trunks of the trees are used and the wood is imported from all over the world. The tree trunks are treated and aged for a couple of years to remove the moisture and then cut into thin slabs 0.7 millimeters thick. This beauty measures 15¾” x 2” D/H (height does not take into consideration the glass top since it’s removable). We are including the thick (5mm) removable glass top that we had made to protect the surface of the lazy susan, and it measures 15” x ¼” D/H. The lazy susan is in excellent condition with little to no visible wear, since it has been protected. The 5mm thick circular glass top is also in excellent condition with age-appropriate wear. The rotating mechanism is flawless. Please take note that we added a felted bottom to the base so that it will not slide. Also, please note that when the circular glass is on the top there may appear to be a slight shade difference simply because the glass diffuses light onto the top making it look darker that is (see photos 2, 4 & 6 with glass). Together, the lazy susan and circular glass top weigh 10 lbs. The makers signature is on the lower center front while the establishment’s label, where the lazy susan was purchased in Sorrento, is on the back. A unique statement maker and perhaps, a must-have for you.
