The rim is decorated … Read more Chinese porcelain vase painted by Wang Dafan, with a white glazed exterior, interior and inset base. The rim is decorated with a band of dark red, ornate Ru Yi lappets with pendants, capped by a dotted band bracketed by double trim lines. The top and bottom of the extended foot are banded with ornate, dark red, meanders. The front of the vase has a finely drawn and shaded, polychrome depiction of two luohans pausing before entering a stone gateway, amid finely detailed, bamboo trees, grasses, a branching plum tree, low rocks and bushes. The back of the vase has a signed poem in caoshu script with a red seal mark. A red, Xi Ping Cao Lu, dedication mark in Zhuanshu script within a square is glazed to the inset base. The finely carved, traditional, Chinese, hongmu stand is included. Circa early Republic of China period. Excellent vintage condition.

Xi Ping Cao Lu: Thatched hut with hope for peace, the studio name of Wang Dafan (1884 - 1937 aka Wang Kun), a Chinese painter and member of the "Eight Friends of Zhushan". The group organized around 1927 and met monthly as "The Full Moon Group".
