The process of making a monotype is one of the simplest forms of printmaking because the artist does not etch or carve into a plate. Instead, a monotype is created by first painting onto a flat surface. After applying the ink to the plate, the artist lifts ink from the composition, creating areas of negative space. This process can involve using q-tips, rags, fingers, etc. After this part is completed, the wet painting is then pressed to paper. The work is usually fast-paced, spontaneous, and intuition driven. Although these pieces are not signed, they were created by our in-house studio artist See less
