Color Lithograph … more Ex Libris - John Gartner is an Artwork realized in Mid 20th Century, by the author John Gartner. Color Lithograph print on paper. The work is glued on ivory cardboard. Total dimensions: 20 x 15 cm. Excellent conditions. The artist wants to define a well-balanced composition, through preciseness and congruous colors. John Gartner (1914-1998) was a fine printer and publisher, an author, a noted philatelist, and also collector of Australian banknotes and coins. Gartner developed a strong interest in the history of typography and printing and was apprenticed at the Advocate where his father had been a linotype operator. In 1937 he acquired a platen press from which he set and printed his private press books, published under the imprint of The Hawthorn Press. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
