Set against a lustrous coppery golden background, a pattern of peacocks and feathers come to life with rich red and purple hues and delicate touches of green, turquoise, and tangerine. The central square is framed by a brocade border, intertwining shades of gold, yellow, and red against a lavender background. The color palette has a remarkable harmony, and the pattern a lovely balance.
The intricate embroidery, hand-worked with a chain stitch in silk thread on finely woven silk satin, was likely created and used as part of a wedding ceremony. This piece is from the Kutch District in Gujarat, which is in western India.
Elegantly presented on a linen backdrop and in a contemporary acrylic shadow box frame, the focus remains on the antique textile.
Frame size: 33 1/2 In. x 33 1/2 In.
