Founded in 1965 by Jack and Ruth Lewin in Culver City, California, Jaru Decorative Original focused on producing ceramic vases and planters, and later expanded to include a wide range of home decor that included figurines, candleholders, and wall plaques, mostly featuring whimsical animal and floral motifs, such as this limited edition duck made in Tonalá, Mexico in the mid 1960s, in the earth-tone colors typical of that era and of the clay work created by Jorge Wilmot and Ken Edwards of "El Palomar" Studio and the other artisan workshops in the area.
There is a hole on the top of the duck's back, likely for inserting a tapered candle or a dry floral arrangement.
