Georges Braque ( 1882 - 1963 ) was a major 20th Century French painter, collagist, printmaker, and sculptor. His most important contributions to the history of art were his alliance with Fauvism, and the role he played in the development of Cubism. Closely associated with his colleague Pablo Picasso, their respective Cubist works were indistinguishable for many years. Working closely together, thus the invention of The Cubist Style was a joint effort between Braque and Picasso. Artworks by Braque are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
This very rare lithographic poster was created for the exhibition " Braque's Studio " in 1961. At age seventy-nine, Braque became the first living artist to exhibit a solo show at The Musee Du Louvre. He was also famously commissioned to paint a ceiling fresco at The Louvre in 1953 - " The Birds " is still on permanent display at the museum.
During the summer of 1955, Braque visited a bird sanctuary in Camargue, an experience that furthered his interest and led to many iconic works that include birds in their compositions.
The venerable famous printing house of Imprimerie Mourlot Paris was founded in 1852 by The Mourlot Family. It is known worldwide for its fine art lithography printing, and one of their most important contributions was to be the art poster. Mourlot became the place where posters were prepared and produced as works of art in their own right.
