Each of the Beech, Maple and Pine wood "Pohjanpässi" figurines were handmade requiring the work of up to ten skilled artisans to fashion all the bandsawn components.

The medium-sized figurine measures approximately 5.5" W x 7.5" L x 5.5" H (14 cm x 19 cm x 14 cm).

Kaija Aarikka (1929–2014) was one of Finland’s leading artists in the 20th century. She was part of the Nordic tradition aiming for "warm-hearted and joyous" design. After her art studies at the Institute of Industrial Art in Helsinki, Kaija started the Aarikka company in the 1950s specializing in wooden design with rounded shapes. Her artistry (jewelry, decorative objects, sculpture, clothing, etc.) is exhibited in numerous Scandinavian museums and her daughter Pauliina continues the legacy overseeing the Aarikka stores in Tursu and Helsinki, Finland as well as the wholesale and e-commerce operations.
