An antique set of Agate Ware open salt cellars or salt dips made in England by James Macintyre & Company … Read more An antique set of Agate Ware open salt cellars or salt dips made in England by James Macintyre & Company of Washington Works at Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire, dating to the late 1870s-early 1880s. These substantial Victorian era salts are round with ring feet and each is a different color, consisting of a black/dark gray and white, a dark blue and white, a dark brown and white, and a medium brown with gray swirled accents. The interior and base of each salt is a creamy buff color with a gilt band at the upper rim. Agate Ware is distinguished by a marbled glaze pattern created by hand with slip (liquid clay), making each decorative treatment completely unique.

Very good condition with some crazing and a touch of gilt wear, measuring 1.5 in. height x 3 in. diameter. Each salt is impressed MACINTYRE on the base alongside a printed "lozenge" mark indicating the ceramic design was registered with the UK patient office in December of 1878, See less
