Offered is a charming vase done in the Scoubidou technique, where plastic cord is tightly woven around other objects to resemble rattan or wicker or straw pieces. It is known to have originated in France in the 1950s and remains popular to this day. This piece has a design that resembles chinoiserie or export china from the early 20th Century with a bird, a bonsai tree, white flowers, and the base resembles an ebonized pedestal. But zoom in on images and you see that it is indeed tightly woven plastic cord over a glass vase. You could call this elegant if it weren't so much fun - and we would love to know if the name was the inspiration for the Scoobidoo dog cartoon. Also, hard to show in one image, but "1963" is woven into the design on the neck of the vase.
Measures 10.75" tall, 4" diameter, 3" top diameter, 1.5" mouth diameter, 3.5" base diameter
