Born in the South of France in the early 20th century, primitive handcrafted construction, featuring a massive 12 foot long four board plank top with underside battens, resting on a base comprising four trestle-form sawhorses.
Strong, simple industrial utilitarian design, originally made for easy assembly during the short-lived destemming stage of the winemaking process, where following the grape harvest vineyard or winery workers would carefully remove the stems of the red grape clusters by hand (a task now done by machine), then the grapes move to the fermentation stage, and this table would be quickly disassembled and stored out of the way until the next year.
Today, the real charm of this table is not just its practicality but its beauty and its ability to elevate an intimate garden brunch or large extended family gathering into an elegant and stylish occasion.
Inside or outside, the long rectangular French Provincial Vineyard Work Table is a joy to gather around and sit at farmhouse dining, or to setup as a medieval hunt style buffet server with a huge spread of homemade food, baskets of French baguettes, fresh cut flowers, and of course, a large variety of your favorite vintage wine bottles.
