Moderntone was made by Hazel Atlas as early as 1934 and was offered in assorted colors. With the introduction of white Platonite glass in 1936, the pastel and vivid colors, fired on to white Platonite glass, debuted in the late 1930s and continued into the early 1940s. Pastel Moderntone was made in sets of pink, green, blue and yellow in the 1940s. Though retired in 1942, Moderntone had one last incarnation in the 1950s when Hazel Atlas used the pattern as the basis for its “Little Hostess Party Dishes”. This trio offers two in the fabulous blue fired on color, which trends toward a pale periwinkle hue and one in regular white Platonaite. Each cup measures 3¾” x 3¼” W/H; pedestal base diameter 2½”; capacity per cup 6 oz.; together the trio weighs 1 lb. 2 oz.; crafted from white moulded Platonite glass, an opaque glass that can be treated with various fired-on finishes; hand wash to preserve finish. This beautiful set is in excellent condition with vibrant color and little, if any visible wear. A fabulous trio of blue and white to add to a collection.
