This really is a Great Looking Antique American Stoneware Bean Pot - Crock. Circa Early 20th Century. These Types of Cooking Pots were made for Preparing Baked Beans in the Traditional Way. The Front is Marked with a Blue Number 2 Referring to its 2 Quarts Capacity. It is Also Marked - Incised "2 qt" on The Bottom - See Photograph. It is Rendered in the Classic American Bean Pot Form - Shape with a 2 Color Coffee Brown and Off White Glossy Slip Outer Glaze. Note! That These Pots were Made for Utilitarian Purposes. They were Used to Prepare and Bake The Beans in Very Hot Ovens for Hours at a Time. It is in Very Good Cosmetic - Strong - Sound and Perfectly Usable Condition. No Cracks - No Repairs - Displays Very Nicely. Looks Like it has Seen Very Little Use Over the Years. It has a Few Glaze Imperfections All of Which Would have Occurred in the Making - Kiln Firing Process.
I Acquired this piece on one of my recent Picking Adventures in the Down East - Coastal Maine Region.
It Measures Overall Approx. 6 3/4 Inches Tall x 7 1/2 Inches Long - Wide.
