Exceedingly rare Antique 12 Star Civil War Era American Flag. Museum framing with UV acrylic
Before the outbreak of war people made flags to show sympathy for the southern cause. 7, 8, 9, 10, ,11, 12 and star flags were produced. These low number star count flags were made to symbolize the number of states that had succeeded from the Union. As another state left and flag was made with the correct stars to equal the states of the confederacy. The flags were made sold and used in the north and south. All of these flags are rare but the 7 star and 13 star are seen the most. The 9, 10, 11 and twelve star flags are the most rare and very seldom seen.
The flags are usually all made of starched gauze type of material, which was the cheapest available in the day. They were made in about five different sizes and attached to a thin wood stick with glue.
This particular 12 star flag is especially rare due to its larger size. This flag is most certainly a prized piece for any Americana or Civil War collection or collector.
