For most of its history, the Mengel Furniture company was known as a Louisville mainstay of fine woodworking. However, history remembers these early wood products less than it does the brand's later furniture lines. Following WWII, Mengel Furniture hired French-American designer Raymond Loewy, a now much celebrated figure of industrial design, to design the brand's furniture. These pieces, now coveted and collectible, represent the modernist imagination of the post-war era.
