Founded in 1988, Williams Lawrence is one of the most celebrated names in the design industry. In the years since the business was launched, they’ve earned nearly every award and type of recognition imaginable, from being named to the AD100 Hall of Fame in 2018 to joining Elle Decor’s list of Design Titans in 2021. Bunny honed her craft over 22 years spent at design powerhouse Parish-Hadley Associates, before launching Williams Lawrence (with a staff of three out of her guest bedroom, mind you). Her first transformative experience with the power of design came in her teenage years with a visit to the Greenbrier, decorated by the iconic Dorothy Draper. “It really opened my eyes and the lesson I learned was not to play it safe,” shares Bunny. Having been awakened to the power of design to create a mood and reinvent a space, she took those lessons to heart in the classic work she’s created over the course of her career.
In addition to founder Bunny Williams and the rest of her creative team, Williams Lawrence is also home to business partner Eizabeth Lawrence, who was named the brand’s first-ever partner in 2017. In the years since, Elizabeth has run the business and brand’s product line alongside Bunny, managing projects across the country and spreading the firm’s inimitable style coast to coast.
One of our favorite elements of Williams Lawrence’s work is the way in which she and her team harmoniously blend pieces from various eras, creating spaces that feel evolved, effortless, and never dated. “Rooms should have a mix of furniture of different periods, styles, and finishes,” she says. “Don’t be afraid to hang a piece of abstract, contemporary art above an antique console table with ornate carving. This mixing of furniture and art of different periods creates a timeless quality.”
