The balls are made of Lignum Vitae wood, chosen because of its very high density and hardness. The balls have silver medallions inlaid on opposing sides, one with the owner's initials (JTF), the other with "1" on one and "2" on the other so that the balls could be distinguised from each other in the game. The balls have the incised mark of "Thomas & Taylor, Glascow, Scottish Bowling Association". These balls are of the highest quality and could be used today.
