Polychromed and gilded finish practically non-existant as when originally bought in Thailand. Age of the Bhuddha is really unknown, so it is dated when originally purchased in the early 1980's while on a trip to Thailand. Bhuddha comes with a metal base made for this statue in Thailand as well. Measurements: 38.5 inches in height excluding extra 2.5 inch length beyond carved lotus base, which fits into custom metal base stand. 13 inches across the widest part of the cape (left to right). 9 inches deep from back of statue to the front of the cape edge. The feet of the statue stands on connected oval base fashioned in lotus leaf design, 10 inches by 7.5 inches. This is one solid piece of carved wood. The black metal base is 12 inches square by 4 inches high, as pictured and included in purchase. Therefore --- total height of statue IN stand is 44 inches high. The measurements below for width and depth as 15inches, to take into account shipping when Chairish ships. Although I will state that the statue and stand are less than 150 lbs. Much less. less

Standing Bhuddha, wooden hand-carved in the Mandalay style. The torso of the Buddha is completely enveloped in an elaborately draped capelike outer robe (uttarasanga) flowing robes cascading from their left shoulders Their earlobes are stretched long from a youth spent as a prince wearing heavy gold earrings. Each has a large ushnisha on top of their head, symbolizing his high level of spiritual development. The peaceful countenance of Lord Buddha exudes harmony.
Right hand mudra signifying charity and the granting of blessings, and the left hand in the Bhumisparsha mudra, symbolizing the earth as witness to the truth of his words, his head with a ushnisha of tight curls, and long elaborate flowing robes
Mandalay was considered the center of the Buddhist universe in Mynamar. King Mindon moved the capital from Amarapyra to this new site and called it the city of Mandalay. Mandalay was considered the center of the Buddhist universe in Burma, now known as Myanmar.
