Pair of watercolor paintings signed Pierre-Cénon Trigo (1850-1914). This Spanish portraitist painter is famous for being, through his works, the … more Pair of watercolor paintings signed Pierre-Cénon Trigo (1850-1914). This Spanish portraitist painter is famous for being, through his works, the memory of the Nantes region at the end of the 19th century. We owe him the whole of the trades of the old Nantes today disappeared.
One of the paintings depicts Joseph-Antoine Palemone, better known as Father Zim-Zim, a popular street artist playing the old wheel.
The second portrait is of Louis-Dominique Dolgéard, known as Gobe la Lune, a cripple and a vagabond, who alternates between singing with a golden voice and selling lottery tickets. Trigo paints this curious character leaning on his cane, his body thin and his beard shaggy.
The frames are mitered oak and highlighted by a light gilding inside.
This pair of watercolors will please lovers of the history of Nantes and more generally lovers of popular art.
