1970s Arthur Umanoff Style Mid-Century Modern Danish Oak Spindle Magazine or Storage Rack.
This is an absolutely amazing piece! Not … more 1970s Arthur Umanoff Style Mid-Century Modern Danish Oak Spindle Magazine or Storage Rack.
This is an absolutely amazing piece! Not only is it from the mid-century era, but it fully encompasses what Mid Century design was known for; simplicity: clean and sleek lines, solid wood construction, emphasis on function over form and ornament, curved lines with just a nod of atomic space-age design with its spindles. Most commonly this piece would be referred to as a magazine rack, but functionality was key in the mid-century and functional it is! The long and slender shape allows you to add convenient storage in tight spaces or next to your furniture without adding to bulk to a walkway. Try using it next to your favorite chair for books or knitting projects; against a credenza with old vinyl records close at hand, or next to the fireplace to hold your old newspapers and kindling. Its so versatile you cannot go wrong!
This piece has been completely restored and refinished back to its original beauty. Upon acquiring it, the original varnish was chipping and there were aged water spots on the top rail.
Since, it has been completely stripped and sanded down to its original, beautiful bare oak base and finished using Danish Oil. This type of oil finish, characteristic of the MCM era and danish construction, is a protectant finish from water and wear, however it dries within the wood and not on top of the wood (like a lacquer or shellac would) maintaining the integrity and coloration of the original beautiful solid oak construction.
