Offered is a circa. mid 1960s chess set made in Tarasca, Mexico consisting of a two-toned Pine wood game board … more Offered is a circa. mid 1960s chess set made in Tarasca, Mexico consisting of a two-toned Pine wood game board on the surface of a hinged folding wood box that includes the 32 intricately carved playing pieces made of tinted, etched and lacquered Boxwood that have elaborate chiseled bone and resin marquetry affixed.

There is no maker's mark or label, however, Tarascan artisans in Central Mexico proliferated during the mid 20th Century making wood marquetry wares for tourism and export.

The King pieces are 6” inches tall, Queen 5 3/4”, Bishop 4 1/4”, Knight 3 7/8”, Rook 4 1/2” and pawns are 3 3/8”.

The board / box measures approximately 17 1/2” x 17 1/2” x 1 5/8” open, and 17 1/2" x 8 3/4" x 3 3/8" when closed. less
